Installation and configuration
Installation
Various patchs is downloadable at :
Configuration
Once the patch installed, the symbol euro has the ASCII code 128. Windows (and software) is in general configured for to obtain the symbol with the keys alt gr + E.
The symbol is correctly displayed but not inevitably printed ; Why ? In order to optimize the printing, the software under Windows send at the printer the ASCII codes characters but not their pictures. The internal fonts of the printer are used. Result, the ASCII code 128 (lately allotted to the symbol euro) corresponds at another character on the printer. For that, it is thus necessary to carry out this handling :
Select the icon "My computer"
Icon "printers"
Menu "file, properties"
Select the page "Fonts" tab
In the part "Fonts truetype", to choose the option "Always use TT fonts"
and click "OK".
That obliges Windows to send at the printer the image of each character and not the code ASCII. The counterpart is that the impression is slower.

Whatever the software used, we normally obtains the character with the keys alt gr. E.
Excel
We must to have a column reserved for the values in Euro. Thus let us select the column or the cells concerned.
Then by small "the format, cell", page "number", category "personalized", select the following format :
# ## 0,00\ "
";
- # ## 0,00\ "
"
We have to the monetary formats running but by
using it
.
By putting a value in one of these cells, there will be
for example 1 234,12
.
Access
In the page table, to open the table containing the field devoted to the values in euro.
To put itself in creation mode (menu "display, creation").
To select the field devoted to the values in euro.
To put the size of the field in simple real (or double).
To put the format :
# ## 0,00\ "
";
- # ## 0,00\ "
"
The number of decimal must be to 2 (the monetary format containing only the centimes).
To close again the table by recording it obviously.

Use without the character euro
At the installation of the character, with certain type of printer, there isn't the page font
tab". See the installation and configuration of the euro.
The result is that the character
is correctly displayed
with the screen but isn't printed.
As one inevitably will not buy a new printer only for the symbol
, then here some tips.
Word
The tip consists in using the field equation which makes it possible to superimpose two characters. Here one will superimpose the equal sign (=) and the letter C capital letter.
Procedure:
Menu "Insertion, field".
Category "Equations and formulas".
Field eq.
To take the option \o.
The generated field is thus { EQ \O(=; C) }. Result:
Should well be paid attention to put space before C If not C would be to stick too on the left on the equal sign.
Excel
For all the cells which must be with the monetary format Euro, to simulate the format euro it is necessary to put this mask :
# ## 0,00\ " E"; - # ## 0,00\ " E"
For 1 500,34 euros, that will display :
1 500,34 E
Access
The principle is the same one as for the use with the symbol with the difference close will put it the following format :
# ## 0,00\ " E";-# ## 0,00\ " E"

Downloading of the Euro symbol
To have the character
with the impression when one does not have the possibility of having the option "To print
truetype as graphs" (see the installation and configuration),
there is nevertheless an tip. It is enough to create a express font for this character
, this font not being used
by the printers, the image of the character (and not its code ASCII) will be sent to the printer.
I thus come, with Corel Draw 6 to create this named font Alphasymb and I propose to you to download it. Good, I benefitted from it to include some other symbols. This font is free and free of right.
Download the symbol euro and its construction. The file euro.zip (45 KB) contains the files according to :
file : |

Alphasymb.ttf |
organizes truetype comprising the Euro symbol |
For other formats (gif, jpeg, tiff, bmp...), contact
Thibaut.
If format bitmap, specify the size in pixel and the colors desired.
The Alphasymb font comprising the character
obviously,
but also some other symbols:

If you have other ideas of reasons, don't hesitate with me to subject them. Why not a font of symbols with smiley or other ?
Installation and use of the Alphasymb font
Under Windows :
Icon "My computer"
Icon "Control panel"
Icon "Fonts"
Menu "To install the new font"
And to follow as usual the instructions, think of the folder where you extract the file
euro.zip.
On the level codes ASCII, the symbols are mainly placed on the letters. It is thus enough to type for example the E capital letter and to put it in the Alphasymb font.
Word
Selection of the symbols :
Menu "Insertion", "Characters special"
Organizes alphasymb
One can benefit from it to allot to the symbols a combination keys (button "Shortcut keys"); Example : alt gr E.
Excel
Several possibilities are offered to us.
1) To type a value and the letter E Exemple: 1 500,34 E
Then to select the E to be put in Alphasymb.
The advantage is that one has the number in the desired font
and our symbol
.
The problem is that one finds oneself with a character string
and not the numerical value 1 500,34. That would oblige us to juggle
with the formulas of conversion text to numerical to make calculations
on the values.
2) To put only the value in a cell (with like masks display # ## 0,00; - # ## 0,00),
and to devote the adjacent cell to the only character
.
The advantage are: one has our
and the value in the
desired font, and the possibility of putting formulas instead of a value.
The disadvantage is that one has two cells to recopy (the value is that of
).
3) To put only the value in a cell (with like masks display
# ## 0,00 \ " E"; - # ## 0,00 \ " E"),
to select the cell to be put in Alphasymb.
The advantage is that one has that a cell to be recopied (case interesting of a formula to be
recopied for conversions into euro for example).
The disadvantage is that in our Alphasymb font, the figures are characters stick (as the arial).
Therefore not of choice of fonts for the number. If not it would be necessary to create as many
fonts than necessary; it would also be necessary to take account of the attributes like the italic
and the fat. What would quite simply complicate the situation for the character
.
Access
But what interesting here is to use the Alphasymb font in a state.
Symbol ![]()
For that, once that the state is created, it is necessary to put
(with with dimensions field devoted to the values in euro) a
heading comprising the letter E capital letter.
Using the properties, to put this heading organizes Alphasymb of it.
It will be necessary that this heading is preferably of the same size of character as the field
adequate; If not one will be able obviously to choose his color and the other attributes (fatty,
Italic, etc).
Field containing the value in euro
It is necessary to put format # ##0,00;-# ##0,00
With the impression there will be our symbol
with dimensioned value
(12,50
for example).
On the other hand, for the impression direct of the tables, I acknowledge that I did not find the trick for mixer several character fonts in a cell (as in Excel). It is thus necessary in the table to use the format (as indicated in the use part without the Euro character) :
# ##0,00\ " E";-# ##0,00\ " E"
![]()
Note of the author of Alphaquark : The original page (Euro) was created for the french. It's why we speak here of the conversion Franc at Euro. But for another money, the main thing is the same for a conversion in another money. You must just to inquire about the value of conversion (example 6,55957 for the Franc at Euro).
For conversion euro in Franc, the principle is the same one with the difference that one multiplies (instead of dividing) by 6,55957.
Excel
The formula is :
=Arrondi(A1/6,55957;2)
It is supposed here that our value in Franc is in A1. One thus divides by our constant 6,55957 that one rounded with two decimals.
Access
In a table, that we will name Testeuro for the example, there is a field in franc. But with the passing of years one accumulated hundreds (see thousands) of values in franc. One wants to see, as an indication what that goes given in euro. Here the request :
SELECT Testeuro.valeur, 100*CDbl(CCur(CCur(franc/6.55957)/100)) AS euro
FROM Testeuro;
Comment :
Function CCur converted a reality into money value but with 4 decimals ;
Whereas what interests us is to have the value with 2 decimals.
It is thus necessary to divide the value converted CCur(FRANC/6.55957) by 100 to reconvert
it in money value CCur(CCur(franc/6.55957)/100). There are always four decimals, but the
tip consists of the division by 100 which obliges to lose the two last decimals.
By converting it into a real number and multiplying it the result by 100, one obtains a
real number with two decimals.
Concerning the display and the impression, to refer to the preceding chapters.
